About Us
Huskie is a 32 year old family business. While our main focus has been on selling tools to the power companies across North America, we realized that there is a way we can serve our local community as well. The “green” wave is sweeping through the country and we felt this was the best place to jump in. We started Huskie: Tools for Greener Schools/Spaces as an offshoot of our core business.
Huskie earned its first Earth Flag in 2009 and realized through the process that one of its social responsibility goals should be to assist local area businesses and schools with their own “green” efforts. We have created a program that will allow each to pick and choose from a variety of options to best fit their “green” needs. Some have already realized they need to function in a more “green” way while others are just seeing the potential. Working toward an Earth flag is a great objective for all. Huskie can become the bridge offering “green” customized items for fundraisers, worm bins, as well as customized e-newsletters and other service project ideas that will help those working toward the Earth flag.
We all have a responsibility to teach our children how to care for the Earth. When we say “Throw it away!” what do we mean by “away”? Nothing really ever leaves our planet. It’s Huskie’s goal to help all realize that they can help control their environment. If each one of us does our small part in helping to reduce, re-use and recycle then it’ll lead to great benefits for the masses for years to come.
What Huskie is doing to be “Green” in our own business:
- A Green Team leads and moderates the company's environmental choices
- We provide a newsletter to inform employees and customers what the company is doing to be more green.
- Huskie recycles all batteries, old housings and metals. Employees can bring recyclables from home as well.
- Every employee has their own water glass and coffee mug. We eliminated styrofoam and plastic cups that are not recyclable.
- We collect plastic grocery bags to return to the grocery store since these cannot go in most normal recycling bins.
- We recycle every cardboard box that enters our warehouse.
- The employee lunch room has an electric composter for all food scraps.
- Employees recycle all paper from their desks and only print what is needed
- Huskie has many "air scrubbing" plants around the office to help remove toxins from the air. Peace lilies, gerbera daisies, bamboo palms, and Enlgish ivy are all good indoor plants.
- The lights in the office were replaced with energy saving bulbs.
- Two worm composting bins are located in the building for food scraps and the "worm tea" is used to water office plants
